GRAMMAR
Great reference book: Practical English Usage by Michael Swan

Anyone who studies a foreign language knows how important a good knowledge of grammar structure is. And, if you are reading this, you must have substantial knowledge. But what was that grammar point you were trying to remember the other day? Can't recall? This shows there is a need to be always reviewing. On this page different grammar points, their usage and explanation, will be presented. Check it out! Review!
The grammar point chosen to discuss here is the word MOST. So you say MOST? What's so important about MOST? Hold on a minute. Many people make mistakes using MOST. You can easily say:

MOST people, MOST cars, MOST hair...
The pattern is MOST + noun or noun phrase.

But what about using MOST OF? It's not MOST OF people but:
MOST OF THE people
MOST OF OUR books
MOST OF HER BOYFRIENDS
The pattern is MOST OF + determiner + noun or noun phrase.

However in comparisons when MOST has a superlative meaning, you can say:
India will soon have THE MOST people.
Women gossip THE MOST.

Here it is used as a superlative adjective.
This problem is THE MOST DIFFICULT.
That movie is THE MOST BORING I've ever seen.

Now try these exercises to see if you got it. Use MOST or MOST OF or THE MOST.
